Homeschooling and Nesting in the Final Weeks Before Baby Boy

Writer's picture: KrystynaKrystyna

The last few weeks have been a beautiful whirlwind of emotions as we've been settling into our new homeschool year while also preparing for the arrival of our baby boy. It's a time that's felt both bittersweet and deeply rewarding, especially as I reflect on these precious moments with my girls before their brother joins us.

Though our homeschool routine hasn't been as structured as I originally envisioned, I’ve cherished the quiet, unplanned moments we've spent together—tea parties, crafting, reading on the couch, and simply talking. These moments, though not in the traditional sense of "learning," have taught us valuable lessons about connection, patience, and the beauty of slowing down. I find myself grateful for this time to savor the simplicity of just being present with my girls, knowing our family dynamics will soon shift.

Adding to the excitement and emotion, last Friday we celebrated a monumental milestone: my husband was pinned as a US Navy Chief. The ceremony was a whirlwind of pride, joy, and reflection. Watching him go through this challenging selection process was nothing short of inspiring. His strength, commitment, and perseverance have been a profound example to our daughters. They've seen firsthand what it means to go after your goals, even when the path is tough. It’s been a powerful lesson for them to witness their dad overcome obstacles and reach his long-held dream, and it's a reminder to all of us about the power of dedication.

With all of these emotions swirling around, homeschooling has naturally taken a more flexible shape than I initially planned. Some days have been slower, with me taking time to rest as I prepare for labor. But despite the relaxed structure, there's been an incredible sense of learning happening—perhaps in more subtle, yet deeply meaningful ways.

As we get ready to complete our little family, I can’t help but feel that this next chapter will bring the sense of completeness we've been waiting for. That completeness will allow us to refocus, not just on academics, but on what matters most to us as a homeschooling family—time together, learning, and supporting one another.

Homeschooling has always been about more than just books and lessons for us. It's about fostering relationships, encouraging curiosity, and creating a space where our children feel uplifted and empowered. The upcoming months will undoubtedly bring change, but I know our commitment to this journey will only grow stronger.

The anticipation is catching all of us. As we prepare to welcome our son, I feel grateful for this season of transition—a season filled with growth, love, and the endless promise of new beginnings. And while the routine might not be perfect, the memories we’ve built over these past weeks are everything I could have hoped for and more.

The next time I write, it will be as a mom of three and part of a family of five! Stay tuned for beautiful updates and pictures as we embark on this exciting new chapter together.
